Organisation:
The DESP (Department of Economics, Society and Politics) is an interdisciplinary Department at the University of Urbino established in January 2011 out of the merger of the Institutes of “Sociology”, “Political Economy”, “Business administration” and “Political Science” Law” based previously in the respective Faculties.
Tasks assigned:
UNIURB is involved in all work package tasks related to social innovation and will lead work package 14.
Previous experience:
The institutes which merged into the DESP have an important record of international and national research projects on social inclusion and exclusion, welfare, local policies and poverty. From FP4 (e.g. ESOPO, evaluating social policies: paths into and out of poverty), to large scale research projects on rescaling of social welfare policies in Europe (prof. Kazepov as scientific coordinator) for the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research (Vienna/Austria) and to FP7 (e.g. GOETE, the Governance of Educational Trajectories in Europe (FP7). Members of the Department have been involved in the Thematic study on Policy measures concerning disadvantaged youth (DG Employment) and in the peer review of the Social Inclusion Process (e.g. focussing on “Preventing the risk of exclusion of families with difficulties” in Italy). It has also been a partner in the Training Network UrbEurope – Urban Europe between Identity and Change (FP5). National research has focussed on “the territorial dimension of social policies: actors, processes and impacts” (as coordinator); the “social transformation of social Italy” (as partner); “life course, families and reproduction between choice and restraint” (as partner).
