OASeS is a research centre within the University of Antwerp Faculty of Political and Social. During the twenty years of its existence, it has developed a strong and nationally as well as internationally recognised sociological research tradition in the fields of urban sociology and poverty and inequalities studies. OASeS is well-recognised for its scientifically grounded advice on poverty and urban policy to various cities and province, the Belgian regional and national governments and the EC.
Tasks assigned:
OASeS will be responsible for work packages 4, 11 and 16.
Previous experience:
OASeS’ staff was involved in European projects, e.g. FACIT: Faith-based Organisations and Social Exclusion in European cities (FP7), DEMOLOGOS: Development Models and Logics of Socio- Economic Development in Space (FP6), KATARSIS: Tackling Social Exclusion through Social Innovation: Strategy Research Options (FP7) and SOCIAL POLIS: Social Platform on Social Cohesion and the City (FP7).
Staff involved in the project:
PhD in social sciences (2000) from the University of Leuven, is Assistant Professor at the UA Department of Sociology where he teaches general sociology and cultural sociology. Before joining UA in 2009, he was Assistant Professor at CEPS-INSTEAD (2001-2002), post-doctoral fellow at the University of Leuven (2002-2008) and visiting fellow at the Minda de Gunzburg Centre for European Studies, Harvard University (2009). He has participated in several international research projects on European social policy and the Europeanisation of welfare states. His current research interests are in the sociology of Europeanisation, welfare state evolution and sociological theory.
