He has a PhD in Sociology from Lancaster University (UK). He worked as a post-doctoral research associate\u00a0at the School of Geography\u00a0at Oxford University for the FP6-project\u00a0 DEMOLOGOS and\u00a0as a post-doctoral fellow of the Fund for Scientific Research - Flanders at the Department of Architecture, Urbanism and Spatial Planning and the Department of Geography at K.U. Leuven.\u00a0He also participated in SOCIAL POLIS and KATARSIS. His \u00a0research \u00a0is concerned with (welfare) state spatial restructuring and social urban renewal and community development in cities, more specifically with the analysis of social innovation and local development coalitions in disadvantaged urban areas.<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\t\t\t<\/div>

Before joining UA in 2009, he was Assistant Professor at CEPS-INSTEAD (2001-2002), post-doctoral fellow at the University of Leuven (2002-2008) and visiting fellow at the Minda de Gunzburg Centre for European Studies, Harvard University (2009). He has participated in several international research projects on European social policy and the Europeanisation of welfare states. His current research interests are in the sociology of Europeanisation, welfare state evolution and sociological theory.<\/p><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n
