In this Recommendation, the Commission clearly reserves an important role for policy makers to improve the well-being of children in Europe. Within this context, in this seminar, we discuss some recent evidence and work in progress on the relation between a range of social policies and child well-being in Europe. We pay particular attention to the importance of social spending, employment, child benefits and the organisation of effective childcare services for improving the well-being of children. We scrutinise existing policies in order to identify good practices and potential pitfalls. At the same time, we reflect on more ambitious proposals for improving child well-being in Europe, such as an EU-wide child basic income.

Chair: dr.
